Week 3 2015-16

Week 3 Syllabus (subject to change) 

Monday:

Class work:  Writing a Persuasive Essay pp. 15-25

Review Academic Language: opinion statement, intent/purpose, audience concerns, counterargument, rebuttal, the 3R’s (relevant, reliable, representative), CAARDS TEST, logical and emotional appeals, order of importance (sequencing) anecdotes, loaded words, connotations (positive, negative, neutral), tone, primary and secondary sources.

Focus: Primary and Secondary sources and using the sources
            Connect what you read in one source to information in other sources.

Homework:
·      Revise Essay on Good Samaritan Law. If you need help with revision please go to LACER (Open 3-6 daily in Library)!

Tuesday:

Class work:

·      Pick up novels have your ID ready or your name and birthday on a small slip of paper.
·      Pick up:  Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achibe
·      Honors: Pick up TBA based on Availability in textbook room
·      Download Carrds Test from Vietnam Box in 10th grade folder in Box.


Home work: Annotate and take Cornell Notes on The War Escalates pp. 26-28
Annotate and Take Cornell Notes on Dear Folks pp. 29-30

Wednesday:

Class work:
·      Annotate Declaration of Independence from the War in Vietnam pp.31-33 Complete “I Will Statement” for Constructed Response pp. 35
o   Evaluation of an author’s argument
Homework:
·      Download and Complete Graphic Organizer (Evaluate Credibility Template) for Constructed Response pp.25 from the Vietnam Box in the 10th Grade folder in the BOX.

FOX Field trip to They Called Me Malala

Thursday:

Class work:
·      Begin Draft of Essay Evaluating the Credibility of these primary and Secondary Sources.

Homework:
·      Proofread, Type and submit to turnitin.com by Sunday at 5 PM so that papers can be returned Tuesday for revision.
