10th^th Grade Week 9

Day	Date	Assignment  Reminder Dialectical Journals can be submitted Monday AM for partial credit between 7:15 and 7:40.  Make sure you have completed all required sections from the past two weeks. May sure they are neatly labeled in your Table of Contents and Titled at the Top of each page. Honor students should have completed research on Chavez Speech, completed the AR Test on Edith Hamilton’s Mythology, and answered all the mythology questions in their Honor’s Dialectical Journal.  Honor’s Lunch Socratic Seminar is Thursday in Room 125. Bring your Journals be prepared to discuss your responses to the questions.  All students should be conducting basic research on Latino Empowerment. Remember the Driving Question is: Agree or Disagree with Cesar Chavez’s claim that organization results in empowerment.  Resources for further research are in the 10th grade honors box.	√

Homework		Finish your research.  Go to LACER if you do not have internet access at home!  Get help there with both your research and your outline. Prepare 10 Index cards with Facts, data, and statistics (1 per card). Fact on one side, source on the other (MLA Format citation) See the File entitled “ Style Manual for Documents” in in Chavez Essay Folder in the 10th Grade Box on the Main Page of my Blog for how to format your cards.
Tuesday	10/7
Class work		Review your Index cards with your team.  Add facts you may want to use to your Dialectical Journal Research section.  Socratic Seminar Preparation.  Prepare 5 questions and identify 3 quotations your which to explore with Dr. Lara.
Homework		Based on your analysis and research, what your have learned from Dr. Lara, create a Typed Roman Numeral Outline of a 1000-word paper where you agree or disagree with Chavez’s claim that organization results in empowerment.  (12 point Times New Roman Font, ~ 4.1/2 pages double-spaced final draft) Instructions for creating an outline are to be found in the 10th Grade Chavez folder. What evidence do you need to prove whether his claim is true or false?  Think about what determines empowerment.
